Re: Looking for Someone to Take Over

Postby Hiei- » Jan 23, 2010 11:06 pm

I did the dump of the remaining texts (except a few lines that are located elswhere in the rom but they are only a few so it can be done at the end).

Here's the dumps :

http://www.hiei-tf.fr/1_Baba_palace_unt ... _point.sjs (293 dialogs, 32 Kb)

http://www.hiei-tf.fr/2_2nd_Tenkaichi_B ... _point.sjs (331 dialogs, 37,9 Kb)

http://www.hiei-tf.fr/3_Until_Piccolo_m ... f_Goku.sjs (270 dialogs, 30,4 Kb)

http://www.hiei-tf.fr/4_Until_Goku_drin ... _Tower.sjs (210 dialogs, 23,3 Kb)

http://www.hiei-tf.fr/5_Until_the_endin ... e_game.sjs (144 dialogs, 17,3 Kb)

http://www.hiei-tf.fr/6_speechs_after_t ... redits.sjs (84 dialogs, 10,6 Kb)

I can provide a patched rom and a savestate to the translators, the patch will look like that :

Image

So the translators can play and translate at the same time, and so, see who talk, which context, etc...

[BEGIN Dialog-02582]
//ƒ{ƒN‚½‚¿‚́@‘¼‚É‚à
//‰½l‚©—ˆ‚Ä‚¢‚é‚Ý‚½‚¢‚¾‚È<END>
Dialog-02582<END>
[END]

As you can see it in the previous pic, the reinsert dialogue is :

Dialog-02582<END>

and so the translation of the dialog should go here.

//ƒ{ƒN‚½‚¿‚́@‘¼‚É‚à
//‰½l‚©—ˆ‚Ä‚¢‚é‚Ý‚½‚¢‚¾‚È<END>

is the japanese dialogs, commented so the reinserter don't reinsert it but the "dialog-xxxxx" text instead.

<EOP> display a new text box, so need to be used when the translator wants to use a new text box.

<EOL> is a "line-break", the tools don't really need it, but if you want to choose where the line-break are placed, you need to use it.

And also, with this new hack, reinsert texts and calculate pointers manually is not needed anymore, so once a dump is translated, I can reinsert it in a few seconds, and so, it can give instantly birth to a new patch.

To give an idea of the time needed to translate a dump, for someone who would do 30 dialogs a day, it would take 10 days or less.

Here's the size of 30 dialogs of text in a dump :

[BEGIN Dialog-02582]
//ƒ{ƒN‚½‚¿‚́@‘¼‚É‚à

I think it would take 10-15 minutes maximum for a good translator to translate 30 dialogs, so we could more or less say most dumps (big ones, 30kb one) would require ~3 hours to be translated, maybe less depending how fast the translator is or not.

I'm actually copy-pasting the old dump into the new dump (because the old one won't work because of some pointers), there is, more or less, 2500 lines to do, by doing it 100 lines per day (40-45 minutes), it'll take approximatively one month to get all the translated texts in the new patch, so I'll first release a new patch for Kakkoii translations in ~ 1 month (maybe with some new texts if some translators offers their help meanwhile (maybe a new patch can also attract people to work on it).

I'll post, at least, every week to say the progression of the copy-paste.

Looks like things are progressing very well. I look forward to seeing the first patch release. I'll do an update on the site with credit given when I post a link for the updated patch. Thanks for the work on this. I've been trying to get help for a long time and everyone who has said they'd help has disappeared without doing anything. It's great to see this going again and especially to see the much nicer font and expanded text areas.

Reminder for translators... if you can't see the text in Japanese and it just looks like "random" characters, change the encoding on your browser to Japanese Autoselect and it should show up fine.

I already got two answers on romhacking.net though the topic is only one day old, so we might get some help for the translation.

Wow, this is all pretty amazing. I remember when this was first being worked on, that was a very long time ago. I was part of the "Ginyu Force" back when Gokuden 2 was being translated. It's nice to see it being worked on again.

Some infos about the new patch.

I reinserted (and tested in-game with the different choices) 416 lines of the 2500 translated lines (~ 17 %), so from the beginning of the game until the first save point (after Oolong's Village).

I also finished to redo the events list, next one needed to be done is "attacks list".

It's going pretty well (I think it should be ready in a week or two, or something like that), i reinserted near half of the translated script (and tested them in-game, to do line-break and such, because of the new font).

I'll put some news screenshots when the attacks names will be done, because putting some dialogs screenshots isn't really useful I think.

About translation, didn't got any news yet but at least, I'll do it myself (I planned to restart from scratch for the french translation but I can always start at Baba to finish the english one before) if no offer helps once the new patch will be released.

I will just need someone to correct the script once translated (which might be easier to find than a translator).

Sounds good. I can proofread/edit the translation if you want. That's not a problem.

Always working on it, I got a bit busy with some others things but I reinserted one more quarter, so 3/4 of the whole translation (I'm posting that message to give some news).

Then, I'll also have to reinsert the full attacks names and it should be okay.
